Any scoop on How I Met Your Mother? — Thom
MICKEY: When you’re watching the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, keep watch for HIMYM-themed hints. “There’s a Barney story line that kind of leaps out of the Super Bowl,” says co-executive producer Carter Bays. “If you watch the Super Bowl itself, there may even be a little clue or two along the way.” Co-executive producer Craig Thomas adds: “It’ll put the events in motion for the rest of the season.”

Mandy in Montana: More How I Met Your Mother, please.
Did you hear that Amanda Peet is guest starring in the Neil Patrick Harris-directed episode? She appears opposite Jason Segel in their new movie Gulliver’s Travels, so it was a mini-reunion on set.

Jesse in Toronto: Thanks for the great How I Met Your Mother video! Did anyone talk about revealing the mom?
When I ask Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, aka the brains behind the whole HIMYM operation, if they might reveal the mother, then continue on with the show, Carter told me this: “Actually, yes, we’ve always left that option open to ourselves. The problem with the mother is that it’s going to be really hard to cast a character that’s more delightful than Cobie Smulders, and more delightful than Sarah Chalke. We’ve set the bar so impossibly high for us that, so it’s hard.” So, not for sure, but not impossible, so fingers crossed!

Some days ago I’ve posted on the site Cobie Smulders’ and Josh Radnor’s interviews with the New York Post, now I’ve found Alyson Hannigan’s, Jason Segel’s and Neil Patrick Harris’ too. Enjoy!

Alyson Hannigan: ‘I love being in one of TV’s few happy couples!’

Jason Segel: ‘Don’t expect the Muppets to be dirty!’

Neil Patrick Harris: I’m ready to make Dr. Horrible 2!

As big How I Met Your Mother fans, we’re pretty excited about tonight’s 100th episode, which not only features Tim Gunn (we’re also big Runway fans), but also a musical number! We sat in on a conference call with show creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas to find out how the episode came about, what NPH abilities we don’t know about and when we can expect to see the Broadway musical version of HIMYM.

TWoP: What can you tell us about tonight’s episode?
Craig Thomas: This is the most we’ve ever packed into 20 minutes and change, and that’s saying a lot. I think one of our season finales had like 83 different scenes, and while this doesn’t have as many scenes, it’s as bursting at the seams as we’ve ever done. We have Rachel Bilson, we have Tim Gunn, we have Stacy Keibler… Stacy Keibler ties into the second plot, in which Barney vows to give up suits, and it turns out to be like a heroin addict saying , “I’m done with that stuff.”

Did the success of Glee influence your decision to do a big musical number in the episode? (more…)

Like Barney Stinson and suits, How I Met Your Mother and music fit well. So co-creator and executive producer Carter Bays thought it’s appropriate for the CBS sitcom to mark its 100th episode with a big, splashy musical number.

“I don’t think we’re going to do too often, but now that we’ve gotten our feet wet, we’d love to do it again,” Bays said.

Titled “Girls vs. Suits” and airing Monday at 8/7c, the episode features the musically inclined cast performing Barney’s ode to suits, “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit,” backed by 65 dancers and to the strings of a 50-piece orchestra — bigger and badder than any Slap Bet jingle or Robin Sparkles music video before it.

Bays wrote the song with co-creator and executive producer Craig Thomas, with whom he also composed the show’s theme song with their band The Solids. The “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit” number — a showcase for resident song-and-dance man Neil Patrick Harris — plays out in Barney’s mind when he’s forced to choose between his signature two-piece gear and a hot bartender (guest star Stacy Keibler), who disdains men in suits.

Alyson Hannigan and husband Alexis Denisof took a trip to the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market the other day (January 9) with their adorable 9-month-old daughter, Satyana.

Alyson looked content and casual, wearing tights and a plaid shirt, with her daughter snuggled up in the BabyBjorn, and a Starbucks beverage in hand. Alexis took on cart duty as he pushed their purchases along.

Monday marks the 100th episode of “How I Met Your Mother,” a milestone for any series but an especially notable one in this case. Despite glowing reviews and a cult fan base, “Mother’s” future was often in doubt for its first three years on the air. By year four however, the series cemented its status as one of television’s most-watched comedies. And with Jason Segel’s burgeoning film career and Neil Patrick Harris’s burgeoning… everything, “Mother” continues to carve out its place in pop culture at large. Reflection on said struggles and triumphs then were the focus of the Paley Center’s “How I Met Your Mother: 100th Episode Celebration” on Thursday. Here’s a recap of the event:

6:38 PM – Paley executive Craig Hitchcock appears to intro tonight’s panel and isn’t shy about his love for the show. We’ll be seeing plenty of Craig come February 26 when this year’s Paleyfest kicks off.

Considering how many TV series, for whatever reason, fail to take off, when you reach your 100th episode, it’s definitely worth noting. When I visited the set of How I Met Your Mother’s 100th episode, co-creator Carter Bays told me he definitely felt proud of their accomplishment, saying, “The 100th episode is the reason you start writing a sitcom. There’s something about three digits… What we set out to do at the beginning of this show was tell a long, winding saga and it’s kind of exciting feeling like we’re really deep into that saga now.”

Co-creator Craig Thomas added that the 100th episode, “Girls vs. Suits,” “feels like a very celebratory episode. It ends with a big musical number. We viewed it as this on-camera celebration. Like a party we’re sort of throwing for the fans at the end of the 100th episode, just to sort of say thanks. Thanks for being part of this party and let’s just go out of episode 100 with a bang and start the next 100 episodes with some good energy.”

That aforementioned musical number is performed by none other than Neil Patrick Harris, whose character, Barney Stinson, has a new goal. As Harris explained to me, “Barney needs to nail the hot bartender [played by former WWE diva Stacy Keibler] that works at MacLaren’s. Oddly, he’s never banged a hot bartender before. He has a lot of conquests, but never a hot bartender.”

However, Harris noted that a big dilemma occurs for Barney when he learns that Keibler’s character, “doesn’t like guys in suits. Her past three exes were suit wearers and she despises them.” Hence, Harris remarked, “Barney has to choose between giving up suits to bang her or leaving her and keeping his suits – and he sings about it! The next logical step is he sings about it!”

On a crisp November afternoon on the famed New York Street at 20th Century Fox Studios in Los Angeles, old Hollywood comes back to life in an elaborate song-and-dance number that forms the centerpiece of the 100th episode of CBS’ hit comedy “How I Met Your Mother.”

Airing Monday, Jan. 11, “Girls vs. Suits” finds the nattily dressed Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) challenged to adopt a more casual look to please a beautiful bartender (Stacy Keibler). One result of the tension is a 2 1/2-minute production number to the song “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit,” written by series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.

With music arranged and recorded with the help of composer John Swihart, and choreography by Zach Woodlee (“Glee”), regular director Pam Fryman races the dying of the light to capture the biggest dance segments, which begin shooting with Harris and about 70 diverse dancers (plus a dachshund) dressed in suits.
