The new season of How I Met Your Mother, executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas tell us, will be more like early ones, less like the most recent one. Oh, and like nothing you’ve seen before.

Wha?

“We’ll be, from the first episode on, exploring a new saga for these characters,” says Bays. “There’s going to be a big game-changing moment in [that] episode.“

Game-changing as in the rewind in the series’ mythology that we’ve all heard about? Nope, says Thomas. “We’re taking a little trip forward…to get a glimpse of a huge, huge day in Ted’s life. It’s actually going to make it like a whole new story.”

“And we’re going to have actual mythology,” Bays adds with a laugh. “There’s going to be a Minotaur…a griffin. It’s crazy.”

All kidding aside, the dynamic duo are looking ahead to the show’s inevitable conclusion. “We have an idea of where [the series] will end up,” insists Bays. “We’re just going to have to ask the audience to trust us.”

Adds Thomas: “If HIMYM is a three-act play, this is kind of the beginning of the third act. [In it, there’s] going to be…a huge push that will lead us into the last big chapter.”

This is from an article on E!Online:

Neil Patrick Harris: (Fingers Crossed) Present! They’re working on it. “We would love to have Neil back,” Ryan says. “We have a little problem that he’s a regular on another show. But he’s in the Fox family and they help us out a great deal with that. I think we’ve just begun to see the tip of the villainry for Brian Ryan.”

When I suggested Teri Schuester (Jessalyn Gilsig) hook up with NPH’s Brian Ryan (who, remember, had a crush on her in high school), Ryan said: “I think that’s a great idea actually. We had Jessalyn ear-marked for another person but…” To which Jessalyn interjected: “Who? Javier Bardem? Yo hablo Espanol.”

When last we left How I Met Your Mother in May, Marshall and Lily had decided to make a baby, Robin’s boyfriend had accepted a job in Chicago which she had turned down, and Ted… well, other than a bad dye job, not much happened with Ted in his quest for mama. Overall, it was a quiet capper to a season that bummed out some hardcore HIMYM fans because of a general paucity of Big Episodes with Big Moments. But fear not, die-hards: Vulture talked to co-creator Craig Thomas, and he tells us that he and his staff are planning a return to old school HIMYM during season six, with plenty of extended story arcs and lots of movement in the lives of our heroes. So — SPOILERS AHEAD! — look for a big twist in the mama drama, a new wrinkle in the saga of Robin Sparkles, the revelation of Barney’s real dad, and, if producers get their wish, the first-ever HIMYM episode shot entirely on location in New York.

“Season five was a very fun season; we did some of our best episodes… but there wasn’t this larger emotional arc like you had in some past seasons,” says Thomas. “We wanted to slow down the [narrative] after telling the Robin and Barney relationship, so we opened it up in the middle of the season and did some stand-alone episodes. That meant we didn’t emotionally move the ball down the field as much as we have in past years.”

But for season six, Thomas and partner Carter Bays are going for a series of interpersonal touchdowns. “Season six is just exciting the hell out of us because it has so much blood and guts in it,” Thomas says. “It’s going to bear a lot more resemblance to season one or two. The characters are going to be having a lot of big things happen to them.” Such as… (more…)

Neil Patrick Harris lends his voice to Lou, the commander of dog secret agents in “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore.”

Lou, a bespectacled Beagle, leads the subterranean base of DOG HQ, the nexus of worldwide canine operations, where dog agents watch surveillance monitors, break codes, build and test new equipment and…work out.

Lou was once the pup trainee from the first “Cats & Dogs.” Now a proud papa with a litter of his own, he’s top dog at HQ. “He takes the job very seriously. Lou assigns the missions. He’s also like the watch commander, saying ‘let’s go, let’s get this done,’” says Harris.

“You can’t have an ego when you’re doing this,” he concedes, not specifically about portraying a dog, but about voice acting in general. “You’re asked, ‘Can you say it this way?’ ‘That way?’ ‘Can you say it like you’re younger?’ ‘Older?’ You do a hundred different readings and it really becomes a chance to be creative. Ultimately, Lou’s voice is pretty much my own, but with more of an official, businesslike tone.”

Alyson Hannigan and her husband Alexis Denisof took their adorable 15-month-old daughter Satyana out for a stroll in Los Angeles yesterday (July 15). The mother-daughter-duo looked too cute for words in their sun hats, while dad looked happy and casual as always.

Neil Patrick Harris made the most of his one-episode guest stint on Fox’s “Glee,” scoring a guest actor in a comedy nomination to go along with his fourth consecutive supporting actor in a comedy nomination for CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother.” “Two nominations this year? That’s fantastic,” Harris said in a statement. “Maybe next year I’ll get three! At that rate, by the year 2107 I’ll be a lock for every single category. Wish me luck.”

Jason Segel was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night (July 6). While there, Jason , a recently ordained minister in the Universal Life Church, married a couple!!!

The lovebirds are big fans of the actor and asked him to officiate their nuptials. Since he’d be out of town on the day they’d planned to wed, he asked them — and Jay Leno — if the couple would be interested in tying the knot on national television.
